School of Pharmacy
Dr. Rajshekhar Karpoormath gives a public lecture at the School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Rajshekhar Karpoormath, the newly appointed external examiner in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, gave a public lecture at the School of Pharmacy on 16th November, 2016.
The lecture was based on Dr. Kapoormath’s ongoing research with the group he founded in 2013, the Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry Research Group (SMCRG) (http://smcrg.ukzn.ac.za/Homepage.aspx). The group comprises postgraduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
Dr Kapoormath is a lecturer at the School of Health Sciences of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in Durban, South Africa. He is a pharmacist with a PhD in Chemistry. His current research interests include target-based drug design and synthesis, organic synthesis and the development of biosensors. Dr Kapoormath is widely published and is recognized for his outstanding research by the National Research Foundation of South Africa with an NRF rating.
The exciting public lecture attracted students and faculty and centred on four research projects, three of which were medicinal chemistry projects while the last one was based on the application of nanotechnology in the development of biosensors.
Dr Kapoormath challenged researchers in the School of Pharmacy to pursue their research interests even as they work on improving the current infrastructure. He encouraged students interested in pursuing postgraduate studies to consider studying at the UKZN.
